Red Sox and Cubs put pitching to rest
Chicago - July 28, 2007
In a wild series, Todd Vennis' Cubs hit back to back to back to
back home runs in the 2nd inning of their series against the Red
Sox. In the 2nd inning with John Lackey on the mound, Marcus Thames
started the parade, followed by Endy Chavez (his first HR of the
year), then Orlando Cabrera, finishing with Bengie Molina. The Cubs
go on to win the opener 7-4.
After the Cubs won game2, Game 3 would continue the hit brigade
as both teams hit a total of 11 home runs in the game. David Ortiz
hit 3 home runs, 2 being solo shots as Dan Uggla hit a pair of solo
home runs as the Red Sox avoided the sweep with the 12-9 win.
Total in the series, both teams combined for a total of 21 home
runs in the 3 game set.

A
NIGHT TO REMEMBER -
Seattle,
Washington - April 26, 2007
New
GM Mike Bladen had nothing but great things to say about his
club to date. The M's went up against the A's for a 5 game
series. In Game 4, the M's got far more than they ever
expected. Barry Bonds hits three, 3-run HR's and Carlos
Zambrano throws a one hitter. The A's lone hit was a 7th
inning single by Alex Gonzalez. Zambrano did walk 6, but threw
in 5 k's along with his complete game shutout.
The
3 home runs by Bonds was his first three of the season. Bonds
connected on three run shots in the 3rd, 6th & 7th innings
as the Mariners went on to route the division rival A's 17-0.

METCALF
JOINS THE ABL
BY
JARROD SINCLAIR - April 8, 2007
Shelby
Township, MI - It didnt take long for the ABL to replace the
Cardinals manager with Michael Metcalf after the departure of
the previous manager. "With a first place team, we didnt
feel it would take too long. The team has a lot to offer and
will be a competitor for this year's title. They have a lot of
promise and opportunity", says Commissioner Bayless.
Metcalf
states that he is very excited to be part of the league and is
very much interested in playing H2H. "There is no other
way", states Metcalf. The Cardinals first series will be
against the H2H happy Chicago Cubs. I am sure Blomquist is
excited about the "fresh meat". Blomquist says,
"There is nothing better than breaking in a new
manager". The clubs are separated by a game, 2 wins with
the same number of losses. Should be an interesting series.
The
ABL welcomes Metcalf as the newest member of the ABL!

UNMANAGED
CARDINALS CLIMB TO THE TOP-
BY
JARROD SINCLAIR - April 1, 2007
St.
Louis, MO. (St. Louis Press) - After their manager jumped ship
stating that he can not continue to support an organization
that does not support the boys on the field, quit on Wednesday
evening 03/28/2007. With him, he took his entire managerial
staff. Much like Major League Baseball did in 2004 when the
Montreal Expos did not have ownership, the Commissioner's
Office of the ABL will continue to run the team until the team
is bought.
2007
Free Agent Draft held today___________________________________________________________
Commissioners
Office---January 20, 2007
The
ABL held a successful 2007 Free Agent Draft which saw 122
players drafted. The Yankees and the Pirates led the way
drafting 15 players each. The Cardinals, Indians and Royals
drafted the least amount of players, 5 each.
The
draft started with the Cardinals selecting Delmon Young as the
1st pick of the draft. This came as no surprise to
most GM’s involved in the draft. And at the end, the Pirates
selected Fausto Carmona as the 122nd and last
player drafted.
The
first round saw 9 pitchers and 2 catchers selected out of the
14 picks. The second round also saw a high price on pitching
as 7 more pitchers were selected and 3 second baseman in the
14 picks in this round. The third round continued the
selection of pitchers as 9 went in the 14 picks of this round
to include league favorite, Darrin Oliver to the 2 time
defending champion Padres. This selection had been part of the
rumors leading up to the draft. When the selection was
announced, there were gasps within the GM ranks………
As
the teams prepare for the start of the 2007 season in March,
the teams should consider playing some pre-season games
against each other.
Lastly, undisclosed sources from the draft indicated
that some GM’s will be tinkering with their rosters prior to
the start of the season.
ABL PREPARES FOR 2007 DRAFT_________________________________________________________________________________
WRITTEN BY JARROD SINCLAIR - January
11, 2007
Victorville, CA (AP) - As the league sets to
shut the trade floor down, America's Baseball League has been
very quite for the most part the past few days. This offseason
has been as active as ever. Each of the four new managers have
made a noticeable splash into the ABL by moving some big names
and putting their individual stamp on their teams. Some recent
moves sees Magglio Ordonez travel to his fourth team this
offseason. Starting out in Kansas City, he was traded to
Anaheim, headed to Cincinnati from there he has
landed in Cleveland where he will most likley hit 5th. Ordonez
will join sticks such as Travis Hafner, Victor Martinez &
Grady Sizemore.
Rob Adams of the Cardinals, has quietly turned the St. Louis
club into a solid contending team. Currently holding
the #1 pick of the draft, the Reds are not in desperate
"need" of anything, which is a nice position to
be in. Has the rest of the league wondering what will go at
#1. Dave Becker of the Yankees was quoted asking
"what will this guy take at #1?". Emails to GM Adams
have gone unanswered but there is speculation that former
Rookie of the Year Verlander could join the already stacked
staff. If the Cards dont get what they are looking for at #1,
look to them to correct that error as they also draft at #5.
The Cardinals, in this writers opinion, win the Ty Pennington
award for Extreme Team Makeover.
The Reds hold the #2 pick, but can go in a variety of
different ways as GM Thomas has made a statement that he will
"no longer take the trash that has played here for
years". Adding top names like 3B/SS Troy Glaus, SP Chris
Young and Closer Chad Cordero, the Reds already hold 6
fulltime starting pitchers in a very heavy pitching draft. #2
will be as big of a surprise as #1.
The Mariners hold 3 of the first 11 picks and the Yankees have
2 of the first 10. Like the Reds, the Mariners currently have
7 fulltime starting pitchers while the Yankees are almost
certain to be taking the young arms during their first two
picks as their roster only holds a total of 4 pitchers and
only 2 of those are starters.
The trade floor and final roster cuts are due no later than
Saturday 13JAN07 so that the Commissioner's Office can prepare
the draft. As there always are, but prohibited, we are certain
there will be some blockbuster draft day deals or picks moved.
In the past, any trade that is agreed upon with regards to
picks has the manager holding the draft pick select for the
recieving manager, then when the trade floor opens, the trade
is announced to the Commissioner's Office for review and
approval.
With the recent additions of the parks to the DMB game, this
year looks to be more fun than initially thought. John
Wolford, GM of the Pirates, had forwarded some ideas that were
fantastic and ultimately adopted. Stastician Sinclair said
"I got the email, didnt think much of it, but after
toying around it for a little while, we put it into
place."

TOMAHAWK THEIR WAY INTO THE 2007 SEASON_____________________________________________________________
WRITTEN
BY LEONARD LUCAS - JANUARY 8, 2007
Cleveland,
OH - Its
been a long off season and a quite one for the Tribe. The
management presently had other issues to contend with in the
offseason to include a beautiful baby girl named Hannah Tress
Lucas, born 4lbs 11oz.
With
mother and baby home doing well, its back to business in the
Indians front office. The Tribe has resumed their trading ways
as usual. GM Lucas is very much satisfied with the team and
chemistry carried over from last years team. When asked about
the club and its future, Lucas stated that "Hafner, VMart,
Sizemore and Ordonez will carry the sticks for the Tribe in
2007. The staff is currently being reworked but can count on
Westbrook (Mr. Dependable when called upon), Sabathia (nice ERA
and ready to light it up) and Kevin Millwood (seems age is
refining his career)."
With these guys and
some aquisitions made in the offseason which include Sean Casey,
Brendan Donnelly, Dave Riske, Keith Foulke, Pedro Feliz &
Brian Giles, the Tribe is ready to start this season. Lucas said
"Good luck to all the new GM's and returning managers with
their teams." Lucas goes on to say "anyone wanting to
contact the Cleveland front office should note that the best
time to contact the Indians is by phone after 6pm EST at
517.416.2537."
REDS
TRIM ROSTER BEFORE DRAFT - __________________________________________________________________________________
By
AP New Wire - January 7, 2007
Cincinnati,
OH - (AP) The
Reds have begun to purge their roster in anticipation of the
upcoming ABL draft. Their roster had undergone many changes
since new ownership has arrived. The moves have not been
without controversy. The Reds move a lot of young pitching in
remaking their roster and have also stock piled draft picks to try
and replenish the roster. Only time will tell. As for
the most recent round of moves the Reds added another veteran
OF in Juan Encarnacion in exchange for a low round draft pick.
This adds some pop to a already powerful outfield. Today the
Reds announced the unconditional release of:
Carl
Everett
Joe
Randa
Bruce
Chen
Lance
Nix
Not
sure if anyone on the Reds roster is safe.....

Discord
Reigns In Padre Front Office - December 31, 2006
By
Stu Pedaso, ABL News
San
Diego (Reuters) – Listen
carefully and you will here it. That’s right…silence, the
sound of the Padres’ management doing absolutely nothing to
keep pace in the competitive ABL National League.
While other teams diligently work to stay competitive, the
Padres’ lone move has been to trade away one of their best
outfielders, Reed Johnson, for Raul Ibanez, an aging
outfielder with platoon issues, and Akinori Otsuka, an aging
closer. Granted, Otsuka is a welcome addition after the
heart-stopping, ulcer-inducing antics of Brad Lidge last
season. But why not make an offer for Mariano Rivera instead?
He’s available (or, at least, was at that time) and having a
future first ballot Hall Of Famer close out games would go
much farther towards the goal of repeating as ABL Champions.
That is the goal, right?
“Rivera? Isn’t that guy, like, 108 years old?” said
Padre GM Eddie Talbott. “Yeah, we looked at him but we liked
Otsuka better; less wear and he’s Japanese!
Can you hand me that pipe, bro? Thanks.”
Huh? The future of the club is being determined by a
player’s country of origin?
Manager Ted Talbott, in his usual drunken style, added,
“Hell, I don’t give a rat’s @$$ where these dumb $#!%s
come from. You can’t understand what the hell those guys are
saying half the time…and those are the ones that speak
English! You need a gawd-d@*n interpreter
just to make a pitching change! Hey! Manny! Get your lumpy @$$
away from those chicken wings! Christ! Hand me that
‘water’ bottle…thanks. Now get the hell away from me.”
My opinion on the lack of professionalism displayed by the
Padre management has been well documented. Also well
documented is my utter
dismay at the continued success of the club. Trades
that don’t make sense, a manager with leadership skills that
would make Captain Bligh green with envy and ownership that
Talks The Talk but does nothing to change the situation…and
it all, somehow and miraculously, works.
Darwin determined that a species chance for success lay in its
ability to adapt.
Those that adapted to the changing environment thrived…those
that didn’t died off. The Padres need to get younger, fill
some glaring holes (catcher comes to mind) and at least react
to the flurry of activity displayed by other clubs. So far,
none of this has happened.
You can’t argue with Success (although, to be honest,
that’s what I’m doing here). But times change and the
Padres need to wake up to that fact.

ANGELS
RELOAD ON DEFENSE
During
this past offseason the Angels have seen a variety of trades
come through the front office. So far this offseason, the
Angels have added AJ Pierzynski, Paul Konerko, John Smoltz,
Omar Vizquel, Randy Johnson, Derek Lowe, Mike Lowell and
Garrett Atkins, with the only notable departure from their
original roster being Freddy Sanchez.
The
Angels currently have the best defensive team to go along with
their half way decent starting staff. While lacking a closer,
the Angels will look to do closer by committee right now with
Randy Wolf and his .086 average vs lefties and Dempster
closing the door vs righties. GM Sinclair has indicated that
there are moves to be made if the right deal comes along but
no deal is necessary at this point. "The front office has
done a fantastic job putting together a competitive team for
2007, but as always there is room for improvement. The AL will
be a tough division with the NL's best record Yankees
relocating from Atlanta to NY in what was an already tough
division."

IS
RIVERA ON THE MOVE?
An
unnamed source 2 weeks ago had leak information that the Red
Sox were testing the value of Mariano Rivera on the open
market. Per conversations with Red Sox GM, Dan Bayless, the
interest has been lukewarm at best. The indication is Rivera
has not been pulled off the market. While all indications are
Jonathon Papelbon will not close after the upcoming season,
this has not changed the management’s position on Rivera.
In other news out of the Red Sox camp, David Ortiz is
looking forward to having a solid bat behind him this season
in Jermaine Dye. Big Papi feels he will have his best year yet
in the short history of the ABL.

Padres’
manager, GM on hot seat again
San
Diego (Reuters) – In what has become an recurring theme in
recent years, Padres’ manager Ted Talbott and General
Manager Edward Talbott are the subject of rumors after
comments made by Talbott Enterprises CEO Ed Talbott made
over the Christmas holidays.
“Don’t
get me wrong. Personally, I like the guys,“ Talbott was
quoted as saying in Nassau , Bahamas where he was on
vacation. “However, the ownership group has a
responsibility to address problems as soon as they become
apparent, if not before. The fact of the matter is that the
team has underperformed the last three seasons, all of the
championships aside. Hell, even I could manage the teams as
well as they’ve done, if not better. And let’s be
honest: three championships in four years? That’s a fluke,
no doubt about it.”
“Fans
love the championships, of course. We have to look long-term
here, though. This roster is aging, stagnant and in need of
a shakeup. Ted has done a credible job but you can’t just
keep a guy on for being in the right place at the right
time…we need to see some actual managing
to justify keeping him on at that ridiculous salary.”
“We
need a shakeup, both in the roster and in the organization.
Edward did a fantastic job getting up to where we are but,
and this is the important question, what is the plan for the
future? He seems content
to sit on his laurels and do, what? Hope for continued good
luck?”
“Things
will start to happen or heads will roll!”
When
these comments were brought to manager Ted Talbott’s
attention, his comments were, “What?!? That f*&%ing
bean counter! What the f&*% does he know about managing
a professional baseball team? That piece of sh$%! He wants a
shakeup? He wants a SHAKEUP?!?! Next time I see his fat @$$
I’ll give him a shakeup!”
General
Manager Edward Talbott, contacted while scouting players in
a Las Vegas strip club, responded with, “Whatever, dude.
The bar may be set pretty high but the bar is also always
open! Well, here it is, at least. Pass me that Corona,
bro…thanks.”

After
a flurry of activity over the past two weeks, Pirates’
management has retreated to the war room to prepare for the
upcoming draft. Clearly targeting the ABL Champion Padres,
Pittsburgh made serious improvements by acquiring a new corps
of starting pitching and right-handed bats, including former
Cy Young winner Roger Clemens and reigning MLB NL batting
champ Freddy Sanchez.
In an unusual move, the Bucs find themselves with two picks
(#22 and #35) in the upcoming draft. When asked about whether
or not those picks will be traded, management would only say,
“We have around thirty players we really like in the upcoming draft, and we hope to get two of them.”
Expectations are high, and the team is optimistic that with
the added depth in starting pitching, they will vie for the NL
playoffs for a third straight season. Along with Clemens, the
team added import Chien-Meng Wang, lefty
Chris Capuano, and hurler Kelvim Escobar while managing to
retain the services of Roy Oswalt. Speaking about the pitching
staff, GM and manager John Wolford said, “We have enough
depth for the grind of a long season, but
I think we also match up well in a short series.”
The lineup has been built around veterans Mark Teixiera,
Andruw Jones, Adam Dunn, and Jorge Posada. Management cited
the acquisitions of Sanchez, Orlando Cabrera, Luis Castillo,
and Johnny Damon when asked about team speed
and defense.
“San Diego has ruled the roost too long,” Wolford claimed.
“With the Braves franchise moving north and many of the new
GM’s as well as the Dodgers rebuilding on the fly, we will
be satisfied with nothing less than an ABL
title this season.”

The
new ownership for the Reds entered the ABL offseason trade
market with a huge splash this weekend. The Red GM worked
for several hours with the Cardinals to complete the teams first
deal and it saw some big name players and highly touted prospect
change hands. In an attempt to remake the roster the Reds
sent Ervin Santana and Brandon McCarthy along with veterans
Scott Linebrink and youngster Bobby Crosby to the Cardinals for
a double play combination of Jimmy Rollins and Brian Roberts.
Included in the deal were Gil Meche and Mark Buehrle. Says
new owner Mike Thomas, "We always hate to let such
promising arms go, but this franchise needed to show it was
committed to winning quickly and competing in its new home.
This deal gives us a solid leadoff man and a good double play
combination behind our staff. With David Wright at third
our defense should be solid. Gil will eat some innings and
we hope Mark can come about with a fresh start."
Just
when some fans began to wonder how the Reds were going to
restock thier pitching staff the team went out and moved more
young arms for draft picks. In another dizzying deal the
Reds made a move with the Pirates. The Reds sent Capuano,
Wang, Escobar, and Bradley to the Pirates for Paul Byrd and
Draft Picks #13, 15, 22, 27, and 40. They are hoping to rebuild
thier staff through picks. "We have a number of great
picks and feel that we can bring some more quality arms into the
organization. It's a deal we felt we could make to restock the
system. It hurts up front, but in the long run I think we
are a better club for having done it."
Shortly
after 1 am EST the Reds made one more deal. The Reds
Aquired Ramon Hernandez for Jason Francis in a deal with the
Mariners. "We wanted to get younger and have more offense
behind the plate. We felt comfortable moving more pitching
feeling that we can do well with our picks in the draft."
Well
if the Reds fans were dissapointed with the roster last season,
it is completly new at this point. Now lets see if the
team can improve its 54-108 record. This should be an
interesting team to watch come draft day.

It seems that the Indians GM is looking for a 1B and is throwing

will this mark yet another off-season plagued with trades from
